I’ve wanted to introduce a new series for awhile now! Every now and then, we visit haunted hotspots in every state and internationally, but I’d like to take time to focus on a paranormal topic I’ve long been fascinated by for years – famous individuals that are said to haunt locations they frequented in life, and this week, we’re going to focus on iconic actress, model, and singer, Marilyn Monroe!

Born on June 1st, 1926, Marilyn Monroe became one of the most famous women of her time. She was most known for playing stunning blonde characters with a beautiful voice and became a symbol of empowerment to many women of the 1950s and 60s.
Marilyn started out in modeling then in the 50s, she desired something more, wanted to showcase her acting skills and began acting classes. Some of her most notable roles in Hollywood include Clash by Night (1952), Niagara (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (also in 1953). There are, of course, many more.

Death
In the early morning hours on August 4th 1962, Marilyn’s housekeeper, Eunice Murray awoke to a sense that something was very wrong. She tried to check in on Marilyn but her door was locked. Eunice then called Ralph Greenson (Marilyn’s psychiatrist) who arrived at the home in a hurray. He broke the window to Marilyn’s bedroom and found her in her bed, no longer alive. It was reported that her cause of death was barbiturate poisoning, as they had found pentobarbital (usually taken for insomnia and for trouble sleeping) and chloral hydrate (a sedative) in her system and in large, lethal quantities.

Her death was ruled as a suicide due to a report of her frequent mood swings and frequent bouts of depression. It became a front page story for many newspapers all across Europe and the United States (example above).
Despite what the coroner and and police had concluded though, many believe to this day that her death was anything but a suicide and that foul play was likely. I’m not going to dive into that because that in itself could span to many, many pages and we’re not exactly here for that, but the research is pretty captivating to say the least.)
Paranormal Sightings
In her life, there is one place where it was said she frequented: The Roosevelt Hotel.
Opening in May 15, 1927, it became a hotspot for local celebrities and notable figures. It was named after President Theodore Roosevelt and remains on the oldest operating hotel in Las Angeles.
Marilyn Monroe herself loved the Roosevelt Hotel as its reported that she lived there for two years at the rise of her fame.
She stayed in room 229, where many have claimed to see the spirit of Marilyn. In the room, there used to be a full-length mirror where many, including one of the hotel maids, spotted the late star. She was dusting and cleaning the dark wood-framed mirror and in the reflection, saw a blonde woman who looked rather sad. The maid spun around to offer her help, however she faced an empty room. No one was there. The mirror has since been moved to the bar area, where more sightings of Marilyn Monroe were reported.
Have you seen the ghost of a celebrity? Or have you ever to the Roosevelt Hotel? I’d love to know in the comments! Thank you for joining me this week, my schedule is kind of all over the place, so be sure to sign up for emails so you know when I post next!
(Of course, respect to all and any individuals involved, this is purely for reporting/entertainment purposes.)
